Installation Advice for Air Conditioning Compressors
Before starting the installation:
1) Ensure the delivered A/C compressor is the correct type.
2) Inspect the delivered A/C compressor for any (transport) damage.
Additional considerations:
1) Work on the A/C system should only be performed by qualified technicians recognized by organizations such as STEK.
2) Determine and address the cause of damage to the old compressor. The issue often lies within the A/C system itself rather than the compressor. Defective components must be replaced.
3) If the oil is not clean or if the system is internally contaminated (e.g., metal shavings), flush the entire A/C system with AC flush fluid to prevent blockages and wear on the newly installed compressor. Always take an oil sample.
4) Replace the receiver/dryer and expansion valve/orifice tube when installing the new A/C compressor. Install the receiver/dryer last, then evacuate and charge the system immediately.
5) Before installation, verify if the new A/C compressor is pre-filled with oil. See also point 9.
6) Vacuum the A/C system for a minimum of 30 minutes before charging it.
7) Charge the A/C system only through the high-pressure side (D) to avoid liquid slugging.
8) Cycle the A/C system on and off several times after installing a new A/C compressor.
9) TIP: Your A/C system should be filled with the correct amount of oil. For a closed system, determine the correct oil quantity as follows (applies only if your system is not flushed): After draining the system, measure the amount of oil collected. Drain and collect oil from the removed old compressor. Add together both quantities, which is the minimum amount to be added. CAUTION: Excessive oil can cause liquid slugging!!!
