Assembly Advice for Cylinder Head
- Before starting the assembly:
- Verify if the delivered cylinder head matches the engine type.
- Ensure the delivered cylinder head has no transport damage.
- Verify all details against the agreements made.
- Assembly of Cylinder Head:
- Never place the cylinder head on the gasket surface; this can cause damage to mating surfaces or valves.
- Try to determine the cause of cylinder head damage and address it first.
- Inspect cylinder walls and pistons for damage and remove carbon deposits.
- Thoroughly clean all components to be transferred and inspect them for wear or damage.
- Inspect the engine block's gasket mating surface for damage and deformation.
- Clean the mating surface and bolt holes, paying attention to the block's roughness (as fine as possible).
- Always use new bolts (when specified) of the correct dimensions.
- Install the gasket of the correct thickness and type with the correct side facing up.
- Follow the specified tightening torques and sequence.
- Ensure timing marks on the distribution are correct and install new timing belts and tensioner/idler pulleys.
- Allow hydraulic lifters to rest for at least one hour after installation to allow them to settle. Preferably let them rest overnight.
- Adjust valve clearance for solid lifters/valve lash adjusters with an additional 0.05mm margin.
- After adjusting the distribution, manually rotate the engine two full turns by hand to check that the valves do not touch the pistons.
- Always replace oil, oil filter, thermostat, and coolant according to the types and specifications prescribed by the factory.
- Check the radiator and water pump for leaks and functionality.
- For vehicles with an LPG installation, run the engine on gasoline for the first 1000 kilometers and then adjust the installation.
- Check ignition timing/injection system/fuel pump adjustment.
- Take a test drive and re-check everything.
